MOTHERHOOD

"About every true mother there is a sancity of martyrdom-
and when she is no more in the body, her children see her with
the ring of light around her head."

Godey's Lady's Book, 1867

THE ART OF DOMESTIC BLISS

.....in a time lacking in certainty and filled with anguish and despair, no woman should be shamefaced in attempting to give back to the world, through her work, a portion of it's lost heart. -Louise Bogan
“And there are my children!
My darling, precious children!
For their sakes I am continually constrained
to seek after an amended, a sanctified life;
what I want them to become
I must become myself”.

Spring Cleaning Event Days 1-3 The Bedrooms

Days 1-3 : Bedrooms

1) Strip the bed and let it air out for a few hours.

2) Remove & wash curtains, drapes, comforter, pillows, dust ruffle & dirty clothes that are machine washable, use a green detergent. If they're not up to going in the washer, find an eco-friendly dry cleaner in your area and drop them off there.Clean the pillows with natural laundry soap. If your pillows are made from polyester, machine wash and tumble dry on low with a lavender sachet. If you have a bed skirt or dust ruffle, wash it per the care instructions.

3)Clean ceiling fixtures. Remove dust and dirt from ceiling fans.

4)De-clutter dressers, tables, bookshelves, under bed. Sort them into labeled baskets.

5) Dust Furniture top to bottom with Ostrich feather duster & Microfiber and electrostatic cloths (along with fabric softener sheets) are great for removing dust without stirring it upwards.
dust wall corners and door frames.

6)Clean inside windows. Use Rubbing Alcohol or natural glass cleaner & crumpled newspaper as your rag for a streak-free finish. Polish inside windows horizontal & when we get to the outside windows, polish them vertical so you can see which sides have streaks when you touch up. Clean corners and remove cobwebs. Use a soft toothbrush or cotton swab to access those hard-to-reach corners. Clean sill and dust ledges.
7)Dust blinds. Use cotton gloves, or dryer sheets and run them lightly across slats; open, close and repeat to remove any residual dust. You can use the natural wood cleaner on wood blinds or remove plastic and metal blinds and give them a rinse outside with the hose.

8)To rub away scratches on wood, mix equal parts lemon juice and vegetable oil. Use a soft cloth saturated with the mixture to buff away scratches. Avoid over-polishing furniture, as residue from the polish can accumulate over time, dulling wood surfaces. Stick to polishing your furniture only 2-3 a year.

9) Vacuum the mattress and box springs. Use a green cleaner to remove any stains. If you don’t have a mattress protector, buy one now to prevent any future stains.

10) Flip your mattress. Unless your mattress is a “no flip” design, you should flip it over and switch the top to the bottom every six months to help it wear evenly.

11) Before reapplying sheets, sprits the mattress and mattress cover with a natural fabric freshener, such as Lavender,Lemongrass, or Rose Spray. Make sure it dries completely before redressing.

12)Wash base boards with general purpose natural cleaner. Wipe any dirt off walls & doors.

13) For the carpet, mix borax and essential oil together, sprinkle over the rug, let it sit, and then vacuum entire room. Pay attention to edges and corners.

14) Shampoo Carpets.

15) Replace drapes, pillows & linens to room.

An Island of Security....A Mother at Home

Very largely does the wife hold in her hands, as a sacred trust, the happiness and the highest good of the hearts that nestle there. In the last analysis, home happiness depends on the wife.
  • Her spirit gives the home its atmosphere.
  • Her hands fashion its beauty.
  • Her heart makes its love.
And the end is so worthy, so noble, so divine, that no woman who has been called to be a wife, and has listened to the call, should consider any price too great to pay, to be . . .

the light,
the joy,
the blessing,
the inspiration,
of a home.

The woman who makes a sweet, beautiful home, filling it with love and prayer and purity, is doing something better than anything else her hands could find to do beneath the skies.

A true mother is one of the holiest secrets of home happiness.

God sends many beautiful things to this world,

many noble gifts;

but no blessing is richer than that which He bestows

in a mother

who has learned love's lessons well,

and has realized something of the meaning

of her sacred calling.
